About this blog

This blog isn't your typical weight loss blog. While I do have around 40 pounds that I need to lose, it is also documenting my life as I try to adjust from eating whatever is easiest to eating whole, clean foods while reading books about our current food system.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in May of 2014. I was lucky with my diagnosis because my TSH levels were not to high to be treated without medication, so I agreed that I would work on making lifestyle choices to keep my thyroid healthy.

Unlike most people diagnosed with hypothyroidism, however, I am lucky in that I love cooking and have been making food since I was five years old. My mother was a caterer and my paternal grandmother was a Home Ec teacher. Even with this advantage, I know that these changes will be a struggle. The list of 'no-no' foods is overwhelming, but so is the cost of not avoiding those foods.

I decided that because there are millions of us out there struggling to find out what we can eat and what will make us feel better, I'd start a blog featuring recipes that are thyroid-friendly, replacement foods for common things I eat, reviews of books about the modern food system and little bits of my life while searching for some peace and happiness thrown in.

You'll see a lot of different things on this blog, but you won't find me moaning about the misery that's befallen me. I'm lucky. I can change what's happening with my body, and so can you. Even if you don't have hypothyroidism, you can work getting processed food out of your body and whole food inside of it. It's hard, but if the first few weeks of me doing this are any indication, it's totally worth it.

If you've found this blog because you're also combating hypothyroidism, please feel free to reach out to me through the contact me area. I look forward to hearing from you!
